Construction of one of the largest coal-fired power stations in the world is currently under way in South Africa. Contractor, LESEDI Nuclear Services, chose HUANZHONG to supply the Dismantling Joints to the Kusile power station for use in its advanced cooling systems.
The Kusile power station will not only be one of the largest coal-fired power station in the world (over 1200 square meters) it will also be constructed two years quicker than any other power station and become the first in South Africa to use the advanced environmental technology of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) wet scrubbers and aircooled condensers. This new technology will enable Kusile to produce 4800 MW of more sustainable and cleaner energy every day.
Posiflex supplied specialist Dismantling Joints in varying sizes from 32mm to 700mm, the unique nature of the project meant that Black and Veatch, who designed the power station, required Posiflex’s high level of tailored customer service which included detailed installation guides.
The Kusile power station is set to be completed in stages with the final unit being installed in 2015.
